Omani national cuisine is rich and diverse, combining Arab and Indian Ocean flavors thanks to its long history and geographical location. Halwa is one of Oman's most famous sweets; it is made with special spices, sugar, and various ingredients, and is a symbol of hospitality.
In Omani cuisine, dishes are enriched with spices, but their flavor is usually balanced and delicate. Cumin, ginger, saffron, cinnamon, and various herbs are the most commonly used spices, adding unique and distinctive flavors to food.
During meals, Omani tea or coffee (kahwa) is served. Kahwa is presented through a special ritual and holds great importance as a sign of hospitality. Meals are often shared enthusiastically among family and friends, and guests are treated with special respect.
