Summer in Saudi Arabia lasts from May to October and is by far the longest and hottest season. The official tourist season runs from October to March; however, the best months to visit Saudi Arabia are between November and February, when temperatures are at their coolest. The country has an arid desert climate, so it’s best to travel when it’s cool enough to explore archaeological sites, many of which offer very little shade. In November, the average daily high in Riyadh is still around 28°C, dropping to about 22°C in December. The mountains are cooler year-round, and the south of Saudi Arabia even feels the effects of the Indian Ocean monsoon.
