Best Time to Visit Uzbekistan

Best Time to Visit Uzbekistan
January 9, 2026

The best time to visit Uzbekistan is in spring (late March to May) and autumn (September to early November). Summers can be extremely hot, with temperatures rising to 37°C, while winters are often freezing. Spring brings steadily rising temperatures and blooming landscapes, making it a wonderful season for sightseeing. Autumn is typically warm and dry, allowing visitors to enjoy pleasant weather without the intensity of summer heat.

Visiting Uzbekistan in January
January is part of the low season and one of the coldest months of the year. Despite the cold, skies are usually bright and clear, and with very few visitors, popular sights can feel wonderfully peaceful. Warm clothing and layers are essential, especially in Samarkand and Tashkent. It is also a photographer’s dream due to the crisp light and quiet atmosphere.

Visiting Uzbekistan in February
February remains low season, though it is slightly warmer than January. Temperatures in central cities hover just above freezing, with Tashkent warming a little during the day and Samarkand remaining cooler. Fewer crowds make this a calm time to explore, but warm layers are still necessary. Termez enjoys a milder microclimate and is home to the country’s only cave Buddhist monastery.

Visiting Uzbekistan in March
March marks the start of the medium season as temperatures rise into the high teens and early twenties. Visitor numbers are still relatively low, and the first signs of spring appear. Desert trekking becomes possible from March to May. The country celebrates Navruz on 21 March, a New Year festival symbolising renewal and rebirth.

Visiting Uzbekistan in April
April signals the beginning of the high season. Visitor numbers increase, but major attractions remain manageable. There is a higher chance of rain in Samarkand, and desert trekking is still possible. The mild temperatures make this an excellent month for cultural exploration.

Visiting Uzbekistan in May
May is firmly in the high season, with warmer yet comfortable temperatures and clear skies. It is one of the most popular months to visit, so booking accommodation in advance is recommended. Cultural events such as the Silk and Spices Festival and Boysun Bahori, a folklore festival in Surkhandarya Province, take place during this month.

Visiting Uzbekistan in June
June remains a popular time to visit, with warm but generally manageable temperatures. Hotels and attractions are busy, and while some regions are ideal for sightseeing, others begin to feel the intensity of approaching summer.

Visiting Uzbekistan in July
July is one of the hottest and driest months, with temperatures often reaching the mid to high 30s and sometimes exceeding 40°C. Sightseeing is best done early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Long overland journeys can be uncomfortable due to the heat.

Visiting Uzbekistan in August
August continues the summer heat, though temperatures may drop slightly in some regions. Outdoor exploration during midday is best avoided, with museums providing welcome relief from the oppressive conditions.

Visiting Uzbekistan in September
September is a high-season favourite as summer heat fades and harvest time begins. Markets fill with fresh produce, and temperatures settle into the mid-20s. Independence Day on 1  September is celebrated nationwide with festivals, music, and fireworks, particularly in Tashkent.

Visiting Uzbekistan in October
October is one of the most pleasant months to visit, with temperatures ranging between 15°C and 24°C. It is ideal for exploring Silk Road cities, though mornings and evenings can be cool. Desert trekking is still possible during this period.

Visiting Uzbekistan in November
November marks the start of the low season. Temperatures drop, but midday weather can be comfortable, and clear skies provide excellent conditions for photography. With fewer visitors, it can be a quiet and atmospheric time to explore, especially in southern regions where it is milder.

Visiting Uzbekistan in December
December brings cold weather, snowfall, and occasional heavy rain, making it one of the least suitable months for travel.
